Life expectancy has increased across the board. For women, the chance of living to 90 years old is 34%, which jumps to 52% for those who are nonsmokers and in excellent health — a sort of “longevity bonus,” Roy said. For married couples, the chance one will live to 90 is 49%, and jumps another 23% if both are healthy and nonsmokers. Roy emphasized that advisors need to provide a plan that goes out to 100 years old, although those numbers even drop for the healthy into the teens.
